Who Can Set Up Google My Business?
Google My Business is available to local businesses and organizations of all sizes located in Singapore or anywhere globally.
What is a Local Business?
Local doesn’t indicate that the business is small. There are a lot of massive and local companies. It just means that the business is physically located in a specific place. So, for example, if you’re an online retailer who doesn’t have any physical stores or offices located in Singapore, you wouldn’t be able to set up Google My Business in Singapore.
In a nutshell, a local business is a business that sells services or products targeting local consumers.
Here are some examples of local businesses:
- Trade Services: e.g., locksmiths, plumbing
- Real Estate: e.g., agent, investors
- Building: e.g., carpentry, interior designer, renovation contractor
- Mechanical: e.g., car repair, towing service
- Healthcare: e.g., chiropractor, bekam, dentists, veterinary
- Legal: e.g., family law
These are just some examples of local businesses. The list could go on forever.

Mistakes to Avoid While Setting Up Google My Business
People often make a few mistakes while setting up Google My Business.
Here are the three most common ones:
- Not Entering your complete address.
Sometimes, Google will verify your business by sending mail to your mailbox. So putting your full address is very important.
- Not entering your business phone number.
This is also important as customers might want to call you directly to ask for direction or whether you are open during public holidays. And Google will rank businesses higher that have a phone number listed. Not ticking the box for customer visits.
- Did not add any pictures of your services or products.
You can show your recently completed projects or dishes that your restaurant cooked. Humans are visuals; pictures help let them know what to expect from your business.
